Natural Chaos

I wish to say it would be fascinating:

animals in their natural habitat.

The variety of them changes rapidly

in and around the seasons.

Some glare into your soul,

some prowl so low you’d never see them when they growl.

There’s now a designated flashlight

for tracking down these (often furry) varmints

while two of my own hairy beasts expose their whereabouts.

As crazy as it may be my backyard is wilder than a zoo.

Skunks nest under the frazzled pinetree

and spray their toxic aroma all over the neighborhood.

Owls swoop in only to leave welcoming gifts,

only to be discovered by innocent eyes.

In the massive woodpile possum make it their bungalow,

They conquer to then multiply.
