The Climb

I don’t enjoy the descending as much
I am more about the climb up
The feeling of escaping from the world below
The feeling of progress in the form of vertical height
I love the air and how it gets cleaner
Up there where I can’t be hurt
By my feelings or the world
I am just there looking for a way to get over it
The land below me is vast
Though in the grand scheme of things
It is smaller than a dust particle
I breath in
Air fills my lungs
My heart beats with a purpose
And I intend to find out what it is
The trees bend in the breeze
As if the forest in beckoning to me
And hawks fly overhead
I feel calm for the first time in weeks
I know this is where I belong
