The Tree

One day I noticed it

A single tree atop the hill

It stood there, alone, away

Forests to either side yet no company.

Emmett had seen it too,

who discovered it first, i cannot say

that day he shared his secret,

I had long already knew

We both vowed to visit it

Someday, we said.

The tree, so mysterious

It pierced the sky softly;

It was curved like a fin

It glided over the flowing hills

As the hills got closer it disappeared

the fin was back again,

as soon as I passed the mound.

It was visible,

Then back down again it would go.

This was everyday

on the way to school.

How I longed,

to see that sacred tree.
