Anxiety is a necessary part of the writing process. Read that again. Better yet? Read this quote:

“Anxiety is not only an inevitable part of the writing process but a necessary part. If you’re not scared, you’re not writing.

Ralph Keyes

Since signing a book contract with Elk Lake Publishing a little over a week ago, I’ve thought a lot about this. I signed that contract, went back to look over my manuscript, found out that some of the characters had changed what they were doing in the book overnight. So, I was in the unenviable position of having to rewrite basically half of my completed novel. AFTER I signed a contract for the book.

It wasn’t long before panic set in. Real, intense, horrible panic. And, as my kids can (and probably would) tell you, Mommy gets scary when she’s panicking.

I was worried that I would be found out- I’d be revealed as the impostor I think I am. I wouldn’t be able to get my characters under control long enough to finish writing the book. The publisher would give up on me and decide not to publish the book after all. Nobody would read the book if it was published. Nobody would like it if they did read it …

You get the idea.

The Bible tells us often to not fear or be anxious (see Philippians 4:6–7, among others). So, when anxiety hits, I need to remember to slow down and pray.

Being anxious about writing isn’t a sign that I’m no good at writing. It’s probably a sign that I’m very good, I definitely have something to say. And the enemy will do what he can to put a stop to it, including putting anxiety-inducing thoughts in my head.

But anxiety is not my enemy. It can even be my friend, as long as I don’t invite it to stay long and I use it to remind me to pray and reconnect with the One I’m writing for.

He’ll fill me with His peace and strength, so I can keep going.

Do you have an extra $1? $5? Maybe even $10? Would you consider donating to my GoFundMe campaign? I’m trying to raise funds to become a Revelation Wellness Instructor, to bring spiritual, mental, and physical healing and freedom to myself and others.

Every penny will go to this life-changing ministry. I’d be honored if you would join me by donating to my GoFundMe:
