Being a published author also opens up the door for you to get media attention and more visibility, such as being featured in an article or interviewed on a podcast, which continues to give you and your business more exposure. This can happen either as a result of you using your book effectively as a marketing tool or in an effort to sell copies of it — or both. Either way, publicity is an all-around good idea.

The two main ways I have found to get publicity for free are to be quoted or featured in articles and to be a guest on a podcast.

A third option is to write a press release and either send it out yourself to a list you already have of media contacts (you can also purchase a list of media contacts) or use a press release service that will send it out to its media contacts.

Articles

The best way I have found to get featured in or quoted in articles without having to individually find and pitch writers and publications is by using HARO, which stands for Help A Reporter Out and is at www.HelpAReporter.com. You can go to the website and sign up as a “source” to help writers get the information they need, and it is free.

You will receive three emails per day with a list of articles different reporters or bloggers are writing in various categories like health, finance, lifestyle…
