“I need some of what you have.” I was not in a restaurant or a store. I was at work calmly discussing with a peer our troubling existence caught between a now-defunct data-based system and a new barely functioning system. This problem was not in our control, thus my calm demeanor. My peer was having a more difficult time.

It Started With Gratitude

I have written about my newly adopted gratitude journaling habit. When I started expressing gratitude daily I felt a difference in my attitude. I have come to realize it is more than gratitude helping me cope with the stress of daily life.

It’s my daily writing habit. I started writing a year ago. Between less socializing in person and reading stories on Medium, I became inspired. At first, I only wrote comments about other contributors’ writing.

One day I read a listicle by Nicolas Cole. One item on the list sparked an emotional reaction. It was directly related to a decision I had just made. Since that story, I have averaged approximately one story a week. I didn’t get up the nerve to get behind the paywall and submit stories to publications for three months.
