Born in 1925 in Missouri, Dick Van Dyke was raised in Danville, Illinois, and worked as a radio disc jockey as a young adult. His radio career began in the US Air Force during WWII because he was denied flight training. Vand Dyke’s slight frame kept him out of the cockpit.
