Perhaps the greatest anthemic singer/songwriter in modern American music, Bill Withers will always be remembered for his poignant lyrics.

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain.
We all have sorrow.
But if we are wise we know that there’s always tomorrow. — Lean On Me by Bill Withers

Withers’ career in music lasted only fifteen years, but he left a legacy of soul-filled songs that remain on most people’s favorite songs list. Ain’t No Sunshine, Use Me, and Lean On Me are songs that stem from simple ideas, steeped in deep meaning.

Today is:

American Independence Day — Did you know that the copy of the Declaration of Independence that was sent to King George III only had two signatures? The President and Secretary of Congress, John Hancock and Charles Thomson were the only names on the original version until others added their signatures during the following month.

Barbeque Day — Nothing says America like a good old-fashioned BBQ!

Spareribs Day — And of course, traditional BBQ isn’t complete without a fall off the bone rack of ribs.
