Did it boost your ego or did
joy ooze out your heart unchecked
when the old man in his
truck kept his door up and awake
for you to see him appreciate your grace?

Did your beauty talk to you
and say she was glad she stayed when
the man in the rich car with
gold on his eyes and ears parked
you in the middle of the road?

Did you feel desired or did the
desire make you feel loved when the
men in suits black and blue had trouble
letting you pass with their hands not
appreciating your mirage?

Did your ears shed you tears of
gratefulness like songs played in
response to the poems the vendors
on the street sang in your fondness
while their eyes played the plight of lost lovers?

Did you not love yourself a little more
and did not your skirt cut itself shorter?
Did your shirt not hug you tighter when
warmth flooded your skin with the pavement
boy’s compliment you said you weren’t worth of?

Did it not make you stronger? Oh, are
you not more confident than in the past
year as you strut down the street with eyes
flashing quicker than camera lenses and
the world laid itself as your red carpet ahead of you?

Oh, do you not fall in love with yourself
a little more each time a new compliment
brushes your skin though unasked for?
