In Norse mythology, Freyja the Goddess is the patroness of women who attain wisdom, status, and power — a symbol of independence, boldness, and the courage to fully commit to realizing goals and dreams.

She is a regenerative force and a reminder of how important it is to not settle for mediocrity, especially when one has gathered the strength to stand up for one’s beliefs in the face of those who seek to control or confine.

It probably comes as no surprise that I find this mythological Goddess to be highly inspiring — she was after all a sorceress who traveled from town to town performing acts of Norse magic and shamanism in exchange for food, shelter, etc. These acts of magic consisted in discerning the course of fate and working within its structure to bring about change and transformation.

To me, this is symbolic for “taking fate into your own hands” and shaping those aspects we do have control over — mobility, freedom, and what we choose to do with our creative force. Once we discover what our life’s work consists of, we ought to firmly and lovingly release those who seek to plant seeds of doubt within us or those who attempt to stop us.
