Fun for the whole family.
Comic Con, what’s it all about?
It’s a get-together for comic book fans.
Mainly the conference focuses on comic books and the culture surrounding them. Fans travel to meet and share their interest in the genre.
The conventions were originally organized by fans just for fun. They were get-togethers created by fans for fans, so a lot of quirky traditions resulted and a lot of them are location specific.
No Comic Con is the same.
When the conferences became more popular, the industry took note and started getting involved. Publishers, distributors, and retailers used sponsorships and other ways to get their products and services in front of these gatherings of fans. It was a niche market, made just for them.
These days most events are run by commercial interests and are for-profit endeavors.
Lots of conventions have award presentations at their events.
Comic book creators are often present and are willing to give out autographs for fans or pose for a photo. They might charge a fee to the event, and they have sometimes been known to sketch one-off illustrations and sell them.
