I fell from the sky
onto my mother’s lap
caressed, hugged, loved, wanting nothing more!

An Azan in my ear floated by my Grandfather’s pristine, soulful voice (may Allah bless his soul)
or was it the Angel’s serene white chrysanthemum ruby-emerald wings that brought me into this world so big, so bright

I opened my almond eyes, to see a world beaming back at me
Oh! How it rained all night! Rains of mercy; such a blessed night
An August night, past midnight; a rain so beautiful dazzled the grey skies
tiny diamond droplets sheened the midnight sky

Stars boomed by, one fell on my mother’s lap; delivered by a kind doctor
I cried; the nurse rejoiced, the doctor sighed in relief, my mom smiled, the only time she smiled when I cried
now she gets sad when I cry, so I hide my tears to see her all smiles

It rained after two drought years that night; a special night; I came by; in rains, I smiled; rains poured heavenly blessings all night; that special Saturday night

I touched my mother’s skin; her colors radiated mine; we became one; as I sucked liquid white gold
our connection was made in the womb; umbilical cord disconnected; the heart still one; I recognized her voice, her touch felt so surreal, so calm!

Déjà vu! I fell for my mother’s love; love at first sight; I keep on falling, she is the one with endless, selfless love, she’s one of a kind, my only truth!

Her feet; my nirvana; my gateway to the Empyrean doors; in it, I lay; her hug — my joy, her presence — my lifeline, her small talks — my menu, a tasty cuisine beating life’s blues!

A cookbook I bake with my mother’s love, I forsake every pain, I shake it off with a shrug, a smile, and my mother’s tender touch!
