If Souls Could Choose

A Poem

J.M. Antrobus
Write Under the Moon

A branch above with moss-caked bark and waxy green leaves shades the sand of a white tropical beach blotted with shadows of trees to the backdrop of a blue lagoon and green hills of the volcanic island.

If souls could choose
Their skin, allure ought lose
To milder attraction,
Lest love be wounded
By its own weapon:
Beauty’s flame ignites
Those come to admire,
Competing each for their
Glance at Aphrodite,
Whilst vistas overlooked
Provide views whose
Path is less mired.
The quiet cove at dawn,
Blessed with gentle rays,
Receives her wandering soul
Who comes at last and stays.
