Magnitude

A Poem on Perspective and Knowing

Magnitude*
like altitude
and amplitude
and verisimilitude
always wears
an asterisk

*because magnitude
is a relative matter.

Who can ever
measure
the magnitude
of anything
that truly matters?
Who can perceive
in absolutes?

The radiance of stars
or the intensity
of an aching heart,
the particularities
of place
and participation —

you feel
your way
into
seeing.
