The Stornello (plural: Stornelli) is a poem with 3-line stanzas. Each line has 11 syllables and all three lines in the stanza rhyme(ish). The second line can be a *slant rhyme if you wish.
This lyric poetry form is said to have originated in Tuscany, Italy. It originated as a form of improvised entertainment performed by singers in a tavern. One singer would improvise a Stornello. The second person would respond with their own improvised Stornello. These exchanges were known to be quick and amusing.
