Ribbons of Moonshine and Me

Solo
in the silence
surrounding me
alongside the night’s
velvety stir and
a close hiss,
I know the hidden
black snake has found
its way to me
again:
Its glistening
blue-black scales,
ornate bronze eyes,
spotted yellow hood
and watery breath
tower over me
like a tarmac sky —
my trembling
heart and soul
on the cusp
of collapsing
again.
Thereupon,
reedy ribbons
of moonshine sprint
towards me,
conceal me in
their warmth,
and
a cool gentle wind
leans on the beads of sweat
on my face like a
mother’s silent
assurance,
so to speak…
