Shining All Along

On burning bright despite the pain

I lace my shoes and leave in the dark
To watch it come alive
But the world wakes gray
Am I alive?
The pavement’s my jungle
What then is gray
Drifting clouds deceive my gaze
The sun never stops shining
Fighting to fill the sky
With primrose rays
Though darkness is beautiful
All enveloping and black
Clouds and sunlight dance
On the outskirts of Tokyo
The clouds hold me
Tears fill my eyes
Running
Breaking down this empty road
Breaking
Free from chains
Despite the clouds I’ll shine
Even when showered
In endless gray
Because like pain
Clouds pass
And the sun shines
All along
