Something Began When
A poem
Something began when meteors fell from the sky.
Some say it was magic,
some say it was a blessing,
some say it was a curse,
some say it was the end of times.
But I knew in my heart of hearts
that nothing would be the same again.
I felt it down to my very bones,
like a resonance from a gong, or singing bowl,
like a premonition.
Something was coming,
or came,
that would change the fabric of reality.
As time went by,
we prayed to go back to how it was before.
We could hold fast
to a past
that was already lost,
with greedy, grasping hands,
we held it close to our chests,
like flimsy armor,
as if it could save us somehow
if only we believed hard enough.
But it was too late.
The change snuck upon us,
hidden in plain sight,
insidious to some,
but salvation for others.
