Syllabic Poem

Stained and Rusted Rings

Rush to the gates, open them wide

Just when we thought it was safe to begin
The plague had past and claimed its own
Now regaining new normalcy
Quick to forget the lessons
Unlearned by most of us
Back to our old ways
Rush to the gates
Open them wide
Celebrate
The new
Day

Yes
Except
Few had changed
We were the same
Unpersuaded crowd
Still searching and grasping
For those stained and rusted rings
Consuming the things we could find
Seeking for answers in the same places
We reach for freedom we can never buy

We are actually not out of the pandemic. Many people think we are, and already exhibit the behavior mentioned in this poem. It is time; we must change our priorities from a consumer society to a just one now.
