Not every story is scripture,
not even scripture is
it’s not just a bible you read that way,
when taught to read as a kid.
That novel, that play, that movie,
that podcast, that man on that cross
are neither prescriptions for life nor death,
nor guarantees of a job
nor change, nor hope, nor consequence,
any of these stories we tell

enough it is, letting them be
nothing but what they are
undeniable evidence
of one’s once existence
specific in place and time
amassing followers, trying like hell
to claw to the top of the pile
story after story, click after click
repurposed scripture of how to survive

so my like is a prayer to the world we envision
as stories do battle for world domination
my story is yours and vice-versa I hope
as words dance and shift and teach us to cope

we’ll add our own to the bible of time
we were here too, like and subscribe.
