Sulis is the Celtic Goddess of healing waters, light and wellness and is believed to have had the power to witness oaths, catch thieves and find lost objects. Of course, she is far more complex than this short description paints her to be, but we will get to that in a bit.

When the Romans arrived in Britain in 55 BC, they built a bath complex that carried her name — “Acquae Sulis”, which translates to “The Waters of Sulis”. Her healing powers were said to have been the strongest at the mineral springs in Bath. Even to this day it is believed that, if one invokes the name of Sulis on their visit to hot springs and meditates on the healing of their body and soul, she will bless the person on their journey to light, health and wholeness.

Beyond her unquestionable healing powers, Sulis is a Goddess who asks us to look deep within ourselves, to discover where we’re healthy and where we’re ill. She emphasizes the significance of self care routines, pausing, recharging and bringing our focus and energies to where they’re most needed.

She reminds us that everything is energy and all energy is in constant flux — restless, ruthless, boundless, sparkling, flowing and, most importantly, healing. Her powers reflect the divine light of the Sun filtered through the healing aspects of water, offering her help to humans and plants to grow and prosper.

She is the eye
the Sun
and the well;
She is Sulis.
