Albuquerque Airport 12:30pm…
Dark clouds hung over the empty parking lot, a change from the sunny skies from moments ago. Kristen sits in her vehicle waiting for Wendy to call her for a pickup. She’s listening to music, eyes closed, letting the songs take over her body.
Feeling as though she is being watched, Kristen opens her eyes and sees a shadow moving to her left. A trick of the cloud movement she supposes.
As she surveys the lot, her thoughts get clouded and there is an overwhelming silence surrounding her. The shadow from moments ago passes to the right of the vehicle and she is filled with a deep sense of unknowing. Kristen delves into some sort of trance and hears a whisper in her ear.
She opens her eyes, suddenly feeling a clearness in her head. Memories flooding her brain, remembering things about Jim and the accident.
“Old Man” by Neil Young is playing on the radio when her phone rings.
“Hey, Wendy. Are you and Veronica ready to be picked up?”
“Hi, Kristen. Yes, we are at the baggage claim and can meet you at the door.”
“Sounds good. Give me like five minutes to get over there. The line of cars…
