The Accident (Part 3)
A Short Story

When I wake up again, it feels like days have gone by. I feel fully refreshed aside from the pain in every inch of my body. I can see that the sun is out so it’s not nighttime. I attempt to lift my head but think better of it and lay back down. The pain is excruciating and yet dull and distant at the same time. It ebbs and flows by the moment.
I hear a knock at the door right before a gentleman lets himself in.
“Hello, Jim, I’m Dr. Marx. Sorry it took so long for me to get around to stopping in. Things have been a little hectic around here lately. I also did not want to disturb you while you were resting the last few days.”
I squint my eyes in pain and respond, “A few days? When was the last time I was awake? What is this place? I mean, I know the name and I know where we are, but what exactly do you people do here?”
Dr. Marx pulls a chair over and takes a seat next to my bed, “Ah, I thought Samuel explained everything to you. I guess I was mistaken. First, things, first. After Samuel left your room, you fell back to sleep under heavy sedation. That was mostly to control the pain you were feeling and to begin the healing process. The medication seems to be doing its job as far as dulling the pain even…
