The Cloak of Whispers

It was a cold wintry evening, when Jessica was returning home after a busy day at the office. Jessica was a proof-reader at a small publishing house. She had been working at the company for over a decade, after her university degree in English was completed.

Jessica loved her job and the small group of colleagues who worked with her. She loved the city, that was perfect for her in every way and had so much to offer, from the large parks, where she enjoyed running through every morning, to the coffee shops, the swimming centre and the church where she would visit every Sunday for mass. The city was so much more exciting than her small village where she was born and grew up. Her parents still took care of the farm with her brother Frank and his family.

The thin jacket that Jessica wore was not enough for the cold weather. She was passing by a used clothes store and noticed a slim, smart looking long red jacket, with a cloak and cap in the shop window. The price was reasonable, at only 20 pounds. Jessica rushed into the store; it was closing in five minutes. She picked up the red jacket, the cloak and cap, paid the lady and rushed out of the store. The jacket was a perfect fit and the cloak was a good fit, as was the smart red cap. She…
