Ice melting on the sea at sunset

Clouds obscure the hope
hidden cowering in folds
curled huddled in the lining

wanting to rain down
fulfilled wishes and
tears of happiness

whilst all else is war
and the sea rises —
looking for icebergs

washing in the end
all those arks in history
a prophecy

Utnapishtim…Noah,
Manu, Yima…Oppehnaboon…
— all of them long dead
knew the waves coming

Oligarchs build their ships —
ready to sail their bunkers
deep beneath the ground
the world’s end in
surround sound

is this what the gods intended after all?
manufactured, fitted out, and delivered
deep in the bowels of their vaults

Will they voyage with their deities of gold
steer an empty underground sea
and their children will

Surely

Thank them…
