And I used to think that
because
I was born a woman
I had a natural right to carry children
. . . naturally.
Single line on a pregnancy test, month one
maybe I need to have more fun
Single line, month two
Only if I knew
that month three through
thirty-six, a single line would be there too.
What if, my natural right was not so
because I live in an unnatural world
siloed from source
by concrete and need to produce,
not reproduce.
Where one in five women
would also be curled
crying and wondering how
the loss of their birthright occurred.
