Some say poetry is looking at the guts of the ordinary
and finding jagged edges and intrinsic beauty,
an ethereal, wrenching, cathartic process,
a blurred lens that reflects inward and outward
an extension of self,
a distention of emotion
an alliteration or cacophony of sound,
a wardrobe
a dresser filled with silk
a naked soul
lost in the wilderness
dandelions and tumbleweeds tangled in cobblestone
wild violets and smoldering stars
moondust and milkshakes,
pen and paper,
fires burning in purloined darkness,
pathological, magical
a steadfast, sinking anchor
an uplifting voice
a beast, a beauty, an enigma,
a mild obsession.

Some say poetry is turning the world on its side,
words festering on the insides
bleeding out onto a blank canvas
until the pot boils
and the moon spits beautiful dust on a sleeping world.
