Winter Nap

A Poem

Looking out the window of a winter cabin.

The clock strikes
four-thirty and what
do I see,
not much because
my sight is blurry
and sleepy.

Too early
in the morning,
and lack of sleep,
my mind began to wander
while counting the sheep.

Toasty warm
under the covers,
I ventured a look outside
through frosted covered
windows.

Bleary-eyed,
I couldn’t tell
if it was raining,
the ground looked
covered in snow,
Mother Nature was painting
and everything was aglow.

Not a sound outside,
the streets were quiet,
Winter was settling in
for a nap that would be long.
