Dear katie,

Sorry to hear that your adjusted travel plans didn’t quite pan out the way you wanted them to. Being “hangry” (hungry and angry) is also totally a thing — sucks that you missed the game and had to eat ramen alone (though eating ramen is always a good thing). It’s strange, I hate read receipts too but it also gives you something to check on (delivered vs. read) and can sometimes put your mind at ease. But it’s not like we need one more affordance for analysis and anxiety.

So jealous you have all pumpkin everything. Need to make a trek to Jewel tomorrow to get baking supplies so I can bring a pie to my friend’s house for Thanksgiving. So Jacob’s mom is visiting you two in SF? Any other Thanksgiving plans?

I have been binge watching Jessica Jones (already on episode 11 of 13 whoops) and have had difficulty focusing on anything else. Damn Netflix for their season releases that are so addictive. I’ve been reading a few articles reviewing Jessica Jones (I don’t know why I love reading so much about TV but that’s the subject of a later letter or another essay) and I like that it’s (1) focused on a female superhero, (2) deals with some darker themes that you couldn’t do with a summer Marvel blockbuster, (3) and is less about “ahh aliens in New York” and more personal/street-level in its conflicts and characters. Kilgrave is the most terrifying villain since Heath Ledger’s Joker I think, and David Tennant is a good fit for the role (remember his creepy licking action he did as Barty Crouch…………..JR?!). Also Creed looks so good!

I did manage to do some job search-related things today, do readings for class tomorrow, and work on my lab. I still find myself procrastinating from technical interview prep (really not looking forward to my interview tomorrow just because it feels like everyone has already checked out for the week because of Thanksgiving) blerg! Guess I’ve just got to suck it up and do it.

Most interesting thing that happened today was that that guy asked me out! We’re going to an open mic night next week. Gah feeling the nerves already. Got any first date tips?

Love,

Nicole
