One of the most common side effects of being a writer is the ever-looming writers’ block. I have fallen victim to this occurrence many times, so I understand the struggle. Fortunately, one tried-and-true method has always been there to break my fall in times of faded creativity. At first glance, writing prompts may not seem like a very efficient way to spend your time.

After all, why would you spend your time writing about topics that will not benefit you? Fortunately, the opposite is true. I make it a point to find writing prompts that not only spark an idea in my head instantly but may also double as solid, engagement-worthy content. Here you will find a list of prompts that I’m sure will reignite your creative passions.

Prompts

Write about a rocket ship on its way to the moon or a distant galaxy far, far, away.

Write something inspired by a recent dream you had.

Create a poem, short story, or journal entry about a conversation you’ve overheard.

What scares you a little? What do you feel when scared? How do you react?

Write about a fairy tale creature and why it could be real.

Write about your favorite season.

Write about questions you have for the universe.

Write about moving quickly and doing things fast.

Write about coming close to reaching a goal.

Imagine finding a box. Write about opening it and what’s inside.

Write about a brick wall — whether literal or figurative.

Write about a time when you’ve had to repeat yourself or a time when it felt like no one was listening.

Write about where you like to go to escape from it all.
