Yay or Nay?

I have been married for exactly 24 hours…is it worth it?

Now I realize exactly zero people will pay attention to my review of marriage after such a short tenure. I don’t exactly know what it takes, just yet. However, I will give you a fresh review of what to purchase and what to skip out on when it comes to your special day.

Party Bus

Pros: The party bus prevents DUIs and keeps the group together. Instead of riding around town in a caravan of vehicles, you take one fun bus. The music is bumpin’, the drinks are cold, and everyone is able to enjoy each other’s company.

Cons: $600 for 4 hours of service.

Overall Verdict: Nay

We ordered a party bus that was supposed to hold 18–20 people. We received a party bus that held 8. They tried to make it up to us by getting us a party bus (more like a party van) and a 1990s Richie Rich style limousine. I hope your experience is better than mine, but I'd pass.

All Inclusive Reception

Pros: They take care of everything for you. For one semi steep price, all the logistics can be taken care of behind the scenes.

  • Food
  • DJ
  • Cake Cutting
  • Décor
  • Lighting
  • Bar

All taken care of

Cons: Purchasing everything a la carte can save money. The all-inclusive package will cost you a little more.

Overall Verdict: Yay

Our wedding reception venue was on point! They worked together as a unit. Their combination of experience and service was absolutely top notch. This particular venue does about 3 receptions a week, so they run everything like clockwork. I HIGHLY recommend going with a venue where everything is included. Otherwise, you have to coordinate your, DJ, caterer, cake, open bar, etc. You would need to make sure everyone knows what the other is doing. That can be a logistical nightmare and the $$ savings are not worth the hassle.

Local vs. Destination

I know, I know. Everyone wants to get married in some big castle or hanging off some big cliff off the coast of Mexico. I am more of a traditionalist. My wedding was at a local church and our reception was at a local country club. Since I’ve never had a destination wedding, I won’t bash it.

Pros of a Local Wedding: Everyone gets to come! Many people are able to show up to your wedding when it’s just a drive down the street. We wanted to share our special day with everyone we know and love. If you want the same, get married locally.

Tip: Don’t invite everyone you know.

We could have invited 300 people to our wedding, but we cut it down to 150. This makes it cost MUCH less. It was difficult to cut some people out, but are you really going to keep in touch with your 8th best friend from college? Think about the future…who is going to stay in your life?

I hope this helps anyone out there who is about to walk down the aisle. Enjoy your special day!
