7 Types of Laziness That Make You Procrastinate
Laziness is often a major procrastination inducer. However, it manifests in various ways.
Given that you’re a procrastinator, to stop it, you must understand why you procrastinate in the first place.
Chances are, some form of laziness is at fault and you might believe it’s something else entirely.
Confusion
“I don’t know what to do…”
Maybe you have so much at hand that you are now lost.
Start by locating your center when you feel this. It’s better to acknowledge and accept that you are confused than to actively confront it.
By doing so, you might be able to separate the different thoughts and walk your way to clarity.
Neurotic Fear
“I just can’t!”
Neurotic fear is the worst form of laziness. Any other form makes you adopt the “fight another day” mentality. This one completely immobilizes you.
The solution is to accept the reason that makes you afraid in the first place.
You don’t commit to doing something because you fear failing? Slowly but surely try to intake this idea: “If I don’t do it, I already failed. I might as well try.”
Fixed Mindset
“I might look stupid.”
You deliberately plan to do less than you might be capable of, just because you can’t handle the social outcome of your actions.
This will only make you stay in your comfort zone, and your personal growth relies on that.
You might make mistakes, or not. Either way, you’ll grow. And that’s what matters.
Lethargy
“I lack the energy…”
Just like your body, your mind has a breakpoint. However, endurance can be trained and energy can be gathered through various sources.
Our body runs on water and nutrients, but you can boost your energy through grounding exercises or cold showers.
Next time you feel drained, leave the room for 5 minutes and do something that can boost your energy to the capacity the task demands.
Apathy
“I just don’t care about it.”
Losing interest in something might come from boredom or deteriorating mental health. Either way, you need to set your mind towards the end goal.
Filter everything in your life, one by one, and weigh its importance to you.
It’s imperative to not make comparisons though. Otherwise, you might regret dropping something along the way.
Regret
“It’s too late for me to start.”
This is not a fact, it’s a belief. Or rather, an excuse you’re making to not put in the effort.
Regret will also grow on you since you’ll be constantly wondering how it could have gone if you at least tried.
The solution here is simply trying regardless of age, time, energy, or anything else.
Identity
“It’s who I am!”
No. You are not lazy.
Just like every human out there, you have a lazy part and sometimes it can take over. That is normal.
Even great achievers in history had their lazy moments for certain.
Laziness can be expressed from time to time, but it never defines who you are.
