“People Generally See What They Look For And Hear What They Listen For” — To Kill a Mockingbird

People often tend to vouch for what they believe and discredit what they don’t, irrespective of what’s actual and rational. We agree to people who have a similar opinion and label others who don’t. And the most patronising entity today is social media.

A sizable chunk of your news consumption is from Social media (I can imagine a silent nod). As serious it is, only a few are bothered by the impact it has on their rationality. This is not a rant on how evil social media is, so don’t TL; DR and roll your eyes over. Social media is important and so are its implications.

We all have experienced the product we googled, floating as ads on every page one visits. As terrifying it was to understand back then, that you are being watched all the time, it is now the New Normal.

It might not be that big a deal for Google to know what shoes you are interested in, but, it had a commendable impact on who gets to be President of the United States in 2016 — God, its been 4 years already and we are there again now— and made the entire world gasp in wonder.

It takes no money to get an account on social media but you bargain your sanity over what you ‘Like’.
