There’s a girl who broke all the records for selling Girl Scout cookies. It was the early 1980s, long before the Internet. She hoofed it from door to door, person to person, selling over 600, then over 1,000, and then topping 2,000 boxes of cookies. In 1985, her all-time high was 11,000 cookies. That’s a lot of cookies.
She was so good at selling them, Disney made a movie about her work, and she was invited to speak at the Million Dollar Roundtable — a club for high-performing sales people.
As she went from door to door, person to person, she’d say to herself:
“Some Will. Some Won’t. So What. Someone’s Waiting.”
At a seminar in 2011 the speaker told two stories about this “Cookie Kid.”
In the first, she was speaking to Million Dollar Round Table Club in Radio City Music hall and everyone was probably thinking, “Yeah, cute kid,” when she asked the audience to look under their seats for an index card with a number written on it.
The crowd looks under their seats and starts pulling out cards. Sure enough, there’s a number written on each card. Then she told them, “When you go out in the lobby, you’ll see lots of boxes of cookies. I invite you to buy the number of boxes…
