I have a confession.

I have maybe watched 10+ TV shows in my 32 years of existence.

I have a quote for most situations in my life and like all of us, see myself in a lot of the main characters (Not counting the cartoon shows I watched decades ago).

I was trying to be a Christina Yang in my late 20s.

A Carrie Bradshaw with matters of the heart but a lifelong Samantha Jones fan in my 30s now.

Taking notes from “Midge” Maisel on comic timings & perfection and wondering if I am a brown version of Lolerai Gilmore all along.

Hoping to be a shadow of Jessica Pearson in my 40s & 50s.

So if you are hosting a trivia night on any of these shows, you can sure as hell hand over that Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey to me and call it a day.

Now that I gave a glimpse of my choice,

I prefer to re-watch and re-re-watch the same 3–4 shows, it gives me comfort and I am a sucker for predictability.

Instagram mental health gurus will call it a trauma response. Maybe.

I don’t particularly enjoy the sense of butterflies in my stomach & the initial warming up I need to make with the new show’s characters.

What if we don’t connect and all the time invested means nothing?

So, Predictable is comfortable.

Following is a collection of inspiring & killer lines said by some amazingly written women characters in fantastic TV series (according to me):

1. Samantha Jones, Sex and The City

Samantha Jones — The fabulous queen, no questions.

Samantha Jones quotes from Tumblr
  1. If I worried what every bit*h in New York was saying about me, I’d never leave the house. — Samantha Jones

Never let society’s opinion to stop us from showing up in our authentic selves.

2. “Listen To Me. The Right Guy Is An Illusion. Start Living Your Lives.” — Samantha Jones

Decenter finding the One & work on being your One.

3. “ I’m a lovely person. Get to know me, then hate me.” — Samantha Jones

Don’t be quick to judge people, take some time to collect evidence and then hate them :)

4. I love you, but I love me more — Samantha Jones

The ultimate self-love statement.

5. Sweetheart, you can’t go listening to every f**king little voice that runs through your head. You’ll go nuts — Samantha Jones

As Eckhart Tolle would say about mind having a mind of it’s own:

“What a liberation to realize that the “voice in my head” is not who I am. Who am I then? The one who sees that.”
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

2. Jessica Pearson, Suits

The badass lawyer, the fierce mentor with an incredible work ethic and passion for what she does. She is an icon and an inspiration!

Quote from Tumblr
  1. “I’m not going to cower in some corner and try to convince them I’m friendly. Instead, I will kick some ass and remind them that I’m fierce.” — Jessica

You can’t mess with a woman who needs no validation and knows her sh*t.

2. “He is not angry at us, there just isn’t anyone else in the room.”— Jessica

This line is beautiful because we tend to take what people say to us verbatim & very personally. Learning to detach is a life-saver.

3. Finally, when she encounters her boss who labelled her just a diversity hire.

This is despite’s Jessica’s stellar records of finishing second in her Harvard law class and being part of the law review:

3. Christina Grey, Grey’s Anatomy

A life advice junkie’s goldmine of a show — Always a huge fan. Cristina is everything I wanted to be when I grow up. The queen of sass, brilliance, great friendship & grit.

1. When Christina stood for her person Meredith Grey and reminded her of her value.

Quote by Christina Yang from PopSugar

2. When she spewed life facts casually:

3.If you want crappy things to stop happening to you, then stop accepting crap and demand something more — Cristina Yang

What you tolerate is what will be given to you in abundance.

4. “Have Some Fire. Be Unstoppable. Be A Force Of Nature. Be Better Than Anyone Here And Don’t Give A D*mn What Anyone Else Thinks.” — Cristina Yang

Perhaps the best advice ever.

5. Oh, screw beautiful. I’m brilliant. If you want to appease me, compliment my brain.— Cristina Yang

Let me tell you a secret. Most women love to be complimented on their intelligence more than their beauty. Or best — both!

4. Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls

What’s Autumn or slightly cold season here in India if not watching Gilmore Girls rerun for the 100ᵗʰ time.

I am the same age of Lorelai with the same childlike personality and sister who is like my Rory (and the comparison ends there ;).

While “Oy with the poodles already” is my all time favorite of Lorelai’s here are a few others:

  1. “It’s all any of us wants… find a nice person to hang out with ’til we drop dead.” — Lolerai Gilmore

Yes, isn’t it why we all seek love!

2. Now I understand what relatable pro max means:

Quote from Tenor.com

3. “I don’t like problems. I avoid them when I can and I don’t like people pointing them out to me.” — Lolerai Gilmore

She is amazingly honest and I am all for it.

4. “Get back in your pajamas, go to bed, eat nothing but gallons of ice cream and tons of pizza, don’t take a shower or shave your legs or put on any makeup at all. Sit in the dark and watch a really sad movie and have a good cry and wallow, really wallow.” — Lorelai Gilmore

Perhaps my all time favorite quote from the entire series. And a solid mental health well-being advice too for me.

It spoke to me so much about the importance of actually grieving the end of something, let it break us, process the emotions instead of pretending it’s nothing.

5. Miriam “Midge” Maisel, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

A series I feel is super underrated.

Yet another gem from Amy Sherman-Palladino after Gilmore Girls.

Midge’s impromptu speech at the bar is a scene I re-watch to infinity.

Her lines are relatable and incredibly inspiring.

Midge is my inspiration when it comes to bringing my raw, authentic self to my craft.

  1. “Why do women have to pretend to be something that they’re not? Why do we have to pretend to be stupid when we’re not stupid? Why do we have to pretend to be helpless when we’re not helpless? Why do we have to pretend to be sorry when we have nothing to be sorry about? Why do we have to pretend we’re not hungry when we’re hungry?”
    Midge Maisel

And honestly, the people we get from pretending leave us eventually.

I have been (back-hand) complimented by my guy friends about how I have no shyness when it comes to food. I just reply — “I take mine and your safety very seriously and for all that I need to be well-fed first”.

2. “If women don’t realize what’s going on in the world, they won’t step in and fix it.”Miriam “Midge” Maisel

Yes, it’s important for us to be growing our knowledge and sharpen our awareness of the world.

3. The world is full of disappointments, and sometimes people let you down. You can’t just run away. — Miriam “Midge” Maisel

Face them head on. That’s the only way out.

4. She spoke to all of us when she said the following lines:
