Forget Medium, Stats, and Metrics

I collect words from other languages. It’s always been a hobby of mine, the eternal, non-practicing linguist. One of the terms I’ve come to fall for is the Irish word “craic”. I won’t go into details of what it means. There’s always Google for that.

Medium’s recent clampdown on fake accounts and AI-generated content has affected everyone. I’ve read countless posts on writers’ tribulations with views and claps.

As a seasoned veteran, I’ve seen it all. From the pennies we used to get back in the day, to the many money-chasing Tim Denning impersonators (writealikes would be a more appropriate term) springing up and disappearing at the same alarming rate.

I say, write for you. Write for fun. Write because you need to get things off your chest. Write because you’re a creative creature. We all are. We were born creative and as creative beings we’ll go to our graves. Write just because the sun rises and sets everyday and in between that sunrise and sunset you have the chance to live the best day of your life. Until tomorrow, when your day can be even better.
