Full Lockdown For The Unvaccinated In Austria

Anti-vaxxers are outraged. Is it a bold move by the government?

Three days back, I wrote an article on the 4th wave of Covid-19 in Europe, where I highlighted the increasing number of infections among the unvaccinated and the anti-vaxxers.

Austria has announced that it will place about 2 million unvaccinated people in the country on lockdown from Monday.

65% of Austrians are fully vaccinated, which is considered one of the lowest vaccination rates in western Europe.

Among the unvaccinated, there is a big majority of anti-vaxxers who resist getting the shots as they don’t yet trust the authenticity of Covid vaccines.

They say they are not sure what’s exactly in the vaccines and they are not going to risk their lives with any of the tricks the WHO and other top organizations might be playing to curb the world population. They really think the shots might make them impotent or there might be a secret chip or nano-bots in it.

Unvaccinated people will only be able to leave home for a limited number of reasons, like working or buying food.

Until now, the unvaccinated in Austria was banned from visiting hairdressers, restaurants, and cinemas. But from Monday, they will not be able to leave their apartment, apart from going to the grocery stores, drug stores, and work.

The seven-day infection rate is more than 800 cases per 100,000 people, one of the highest in Europe.

According to the article I mentioned above, Europe has once again become the area most severely hit by the pandemic, and several EU countries have introduced restrictions and warned of mounting cases.

The Austrian police will do spot checks in public places several times a day to determine the vaccination status of their citizens.

The lockdown will last for 10 days to see how it works and it may be extended.

Is it a bold move? Will it cause more protests between the anti-vaxxers and the government?

The far-right Freedom Party has said that this shocking move will create a large group of second-class citizens.

If a large majority of anti-vaxxers refuse to get the shot, which appears likely, the government may ban them from traveling out of the country as a next step.

Also, they may not be able to live a normal life like their vaccinated counterparts. They may not be allowed to work, their children may not be allowed to go to school, and the list goes on. It will create a big rift between the government and the alienated anti-vaxxers.

This may result in more protests, more violence, and perhaps more cases of COVID. What can the governments around the world do about the anti-vaxxers’ speculation as to what it is that is in the vaccines? Are their concerns and doubts rational and reasonable enough?
