Grammarly Gremlins and ProWritingAid Pitfalls
How to use AI grammar-checkers properly
Do you know how to use artificial intelligent spelling and grammar checkers? Do you accept every suggestion they make?
DON’T!
AI spelling and grammar checkers like Grammarly and ProWritingAid are fantastic (yes, fantastic) at picking up errors. What they’re not so good at it offering solutions.
Why?
Because they don’t always know what you, the writer, intended. It’s often about the context.
Here’s an example:
The Conservatives, say Labour will win the next election.
(You can swap these two British political parties for those in your own country if you wish.)
Now, there is a problem with that sentence. When I run it through Grammarly, it highlights the comma after Conservatives.
Grammarly suggests deleting the comma after Conservatives, which will leave the sentence as follows:
The Conservatives say Labour will win the next election.
