How I Got Over Writer’s Block and Fell in Love with Novel Writing Again

Because it’s never too late to start over again

It was sometime in late January when I started to think about writing a new novel. I tried for a long time not to give in to temptation because I knew I had about four half-finished drafts sitting on my computer, waiting to be finished.

But the truth is, none of them were appealing to me. They hadn’t been appealing to me for months, even years.

And it was then that it dawned on me. The real reason I hadn’t been writing any fiction for months was that I didn’t want to write those particular drafts.

I had either reached a crossroads and didn’t know what direction to take a plot, or the characters were starting to annoy me (which is never a good sign.)

Even though I still feel slightly guilty about pushing those unfinished drafts to one side, I know they aren’t wasted because who knows when I will go back to them.

Maybe even the distance I’ve created between them will give me more ideas for how to finish them in the future.

In short, I conquered my writer’s block by starting something new.
