When you know how keywords work, you can write better web pages, blogs, and social media posts. But if you’re a technophobe, maybe you’ve resisted being drawn into all the SEO gobbledygook. Or maybe you just haven’t been able to figure out the online terminology yet.

If that’s you, then I hope you’ll allow me to explain. I’m a practical girl, so I like simplicity and clarity.

Keywords are terms and phrases that define a piece of content.

They’re useful in any copywriting or content, but especially important when writing for the web. Search engines feed on keywords for page results rankings, so the keywords you choose can drive readers to your website, blog, or social media platform for free. (Yay!)

I found it helpful to understand how keywords work before I start a new piece of content. This way, I can choose them for individual pages and weave them into my writing. Here’s an itty-bitty crash course about keywords. Maybe it will help you get past your fears and simply choose keywords that work.
