How to Turn Your Old Stories into New Stories

Using the “Frankenstein” approach

Most of us are familiar with the story of Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. Dr. Frankenstein creates a human being by piecing together body parts from corpses. Despite how grisly the idea is, it’s a terrific way to repurpose an existing catalog of articles.

Everything I write needs to do double and triple duty, so I can repurpose it into new content or products. With minimal effort, I fiendishly slice and dice my existing articles and create new, “Frankenstein” articles with the pieces.

If you frequently write on the same or related topics, you can easily gather up the pieces you need for a new “Frankenstein.”

Step 1: Choose at least 3 articles you have written on the same or a similar topic. For example, I write a lot on negative thinking and neurobiology, writing and editing, and productivity and time management.

Step 2: Chose a new topic that complements the topics of the articles you chose and carve out 3 related pieces of information, one from each article, and paste them into your new article. For example, if you have articles on productivity, time-wasting, and flow states, you probably could pull out sections from them to create an article on the pros and cons of multitasking, procrastination, or daily…
