As I held my (finally) completed book in my hands, I had an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and pride in what I had done. All the hours at the computer, the hundreds of read-throughs, the endless edits… it was all worth it to hold this polished, beautiful book at last.

If you’d like to experience the same sense of accomplishment, then read on. In this article, I’m going to tell you how to write your first book from start to finish.

Step 0: Give Yourself a Deadline

Just because this is a passion project doesn’t mean you can’t have a hard deadline. Humans are motivated by deadlines; it lights a fire under us.

Usually, it's our boss, our teacher, or heck, the IRS, who makes deadlines for us. But with a book, no one will care if you finish it or not… except you. To make sure you see this thing through to the end, you MUST set yourself a deadline for when the book will be finished.

Allow yourself a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 1 year to complete your book, depending on its length and complexity.

Step 1: Identify Your Core Message
