I Have 25,000 Followers and Zero Clue What I’m Doing
What’s the secret to success on Medium?
My Backstory
If anyone knows how to succeed on Medium, it should be me. I’ve been writing here since 2018, and I’ve done well by just about any metric.
I have 25,145 followers on my personal page and 3,801 followers on my publication, Exploring Sobriety. I’ve made a decent side income through this site, and — lest you think I’m only in it for the money — I’ve made a few friends here too. I’ve grown as a writer, and I’ve even leveraged my audience here to successfully launch a semi-popular weekly newsletter.
And yet, despite all of that, I currently feel like I have no idea what I’m doing.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve posted to Medium less and less often. These days, I mostly just use it to repost my newsletter and help it reach a broader audience.
Although I still have over 25,000 followers on paper, the reality is that very few of them are still around. My recent posts have ranged from 44 to 746 views. I suspect this post will receive even less attention since it isn’t related to my core niche of sobriety. It also doesn’t help that this is a “meta” post about Medium itself — which tends to be a recipe for disaster as far as the site’s…
