In Silence

You’re all alone, left to make those of your own traces.

Sit by the sidelines
As some surround you
With side eyes
And laughter, too.

Split between two lands
Divided by societies
That will lend you a hand
Yet lead you to disparity.

Travelled afar to reach home
Only to find that in all places
You’re all alone,
Left to make those of your own traces.

Well, by yourself you thrive
As you begin to come alive
And come through.

They’ll see you shine,
In awe of your presence
Over all that is divine,
As you hustle in silence.

As someone who is biracial and has lived in two countries with different cultures, I often find myself split between two societies—and, at times, feeling out of place in both. This poem explores how I overcame and learned to accept this.
