Knowing When to Quit

The other day, I was watching Ali Abdaal’s video about what he learned in 2021. And one of the things that he learned was a framework about quitting which he got from the book Happy Sexy Millionaire by Steven Bartlett. Everyone has concerns regarding quitting, such as “Should I even quit or not?” and “How will my life change?” However, if you’re unsure whether or not to quit something, this framework will be quite useful.

The is frame work includes bunch of question that will help you decide if you want to quit something or not. First question, “Are you thinking about quitting?” If the answer is “No” then have fun with your activity or whatever that you are not planning on quitting, you don’t this frame work right now. But if the answer is “Yes” the next question is “Why are you thinking about quitting?” There are many answer to this question but the framework goes with the common ones which are “It’s Just Hard” or “It Sucks.”

Your answer to the previous question was “It’s Just Hard,” then the next question to ask yourself is “Is the challenge worth the potential reward?” If the answer to that question is “Yes” then don’t quit, that potential reward will pay off if you push. And the answer is “No” then you can quit.
