Law Follows Me Home — Part 2: The Seduction
He touched her like a lover—but watched her like a witness
Reina Cross had always been good at reading people. It was her job, after all—dissecting body language, parsing tone, spotting lies before they were spoken. But Jace Maddox was a contradiction she couldn’t quite decode.
He was charming, yes. Disarmingly so. But there was something beneath the surface—something quiet, calculating, and just out of reach. She felt it in the way he watched her when he thought she wasn’t looking. In the way he asked questions that sounded casual but landed with precision.
Still, she let him in.
After their first night together, she told herself it was just sex. Just release. Just two strangers burning through loneliness. But the way he touched her—like he was memorizing her—made her wonder if she was lying to herself.
They spent the next few days tangled in each other. Mornings blurred into afternoons. Afternoons into wine-soaked evenings. He cooked for her, badly. She teased him about his taste in music. They made love on the balcony, in the shower, once on the floor beside the fireplace when the power went out during a storm.
It was reckless. It was real.
