Reina Cross hadn’t let anyone see her cry in years.

Not when her father died. Not when her first client was sentenced. Not even when the media dragged her name through the mud after the Vance case. But tonight, as she sat across from Jace Maddox in the dim light of her living room, she felt the tears pressing against her throat like a verdict she couldn’t escape.

He had just told her everything.

And it was worse than she imagined.

“I didn’t come here to seduce you,” Jace said, voice low, steady. “I came here because I needed you. Not just as a lawyer. As someone who saw the truth and didn’t flinch.”

Reina stared at him, her fingers curled around a glass of untouched wine. “You tracked me. You watched me. You slept with me.”

“I didn’t plan that part,” he said. “But I won’t pretend I regret it.”

She looked away. “You should.”

“I won’t.”

Silence stretched between them, thick with memory and betrayal.

Then he stood and walked to the window, his silhouette sharp against the moonlight. “Derrick Vance…
