Photo by author. Jockey and Adidas athleisure clothing, in which she will do neither play nor relax.

Is it still athleisure if all you’re going to do, after wearing it, is to study?

Jockey’s named this line of clothes, “Play and Relax.”

My daughter looked at it and raised an eyebrow, as she tugged her headphones on for a Mathematics class.

Her Xerox copy of the Hall and Knight book is a relic of the old days. Nowadays, all she prefers is a .pdf. The Hall and Knight deserves an article of its own, just for the way in which it is written.

It has paragraphs like this.

We have already, in Art. 8, called attention to the importance of carefully distinguishing between coefficient and index; confusion between these is such a fruitful source of error with beginners that it may not be unnecessary once more to dwell on the distinction.

So, my kids prefer the Indian authors who talk in our English — and the YouTubers like Alakh Pandey who explain clearly, most of the time in Hindi, using phrases like “this thing.” Pandey himself is informally dressed in a round-neck t-shirt, not unlike his students.

My school Physics teacher, the formidable Mr. S. N. Prabahakar, would have looked even more frightening in a t-shirt.
