Living Alaska — About Me
Leaving Everything Behind
I Started In
On June 11th, 2021, I got on my bicycle at 4am in San Francisco, California and rode north across the Golden Gate Bridge. My intended destination was Alaska, to see my 50th State. I stopped heading north when I got to the Canadian Border. Due to Covid19 the border was closed, so I turned south and went back to Bellingham, Washington. I located the Ferry to Alaska on the internet and noticed they had a help wanted advertisement. I booked my ferry ticket to Alaska and decided to apply for the job with the Alaska Marine Highway System.
Missed Emails
I waited four days for the Ferry to arrive and spent 38 hours on the ride north through the Inside Passage. It was light from 4am till midnight and I spent most of that time enjoying the beautiful scenery. I had an incredible time on the Ferry meeting new people, sharing stories, and camping out with my new friends in the Solarium on the M.V. Matanuska. I arrived in Ketchikan, Alaska on July 9th, 2021. During the voyage I lost cell phone service through Canadian waters and arrived in Ketchikan with my phone burping, chirping, and bleeping with missed emails, text messages and other critical information.
