Look for Fixes, Not Problems: Turn Your ‘Oh, No!’ into ‘Let’s Go!’
Be a solution detective and find answers to any challenge
Have you ever been lost in a problem and have yet to get a solution? You dwell on it for long, and no visible results are seen. It happens many times with us.
But are we doing the right thing to solve the problems, or are we lost somewhere? Do we need to think differently, or are we doing everything wrong? Do we need someone to look into it, or can we find it ourselves?
Numerous questions can arise in your mind. But sometimes, we are looking in the wrong direction.
Look for Fixes, Not Problems
The one thing that you need to do is look for the solution. You may be lingering on the problems for a long time. You cry for the issues you are facing.
It would be best to shift your focus to solutions rather than problems. Think of it like a flat tyre on your bike. Instead of saying, “Oh no, I can’t ride,” think, “How can I fix this?”
The more you focus on the solution, the sooner you can resolve your problem. Avoid the vicious cycle of repeatedly examining the situation and start working on a solution.
You will face life challenges, but you must look for solutions. When I was a child, my toy car broke. I started crying. But my father said, “Instead of crying, you must think about fixing it.” I tried, and it worked.
You can use helpful words instead of questioning yourself. Some valuable words, such as “How can I…?” or “What if I try…?” can help you find the right solution.
Take Small Steps
If you look at the problem, you might find it overwhelming. It may be so big that you are scared to face it. But you are doing it all wrong. If the problem is so big that you cannot find an answer, break it into small steps.
Anyone can solve a big problem if it is broken into tiny steps. Think of eating a big sandwich. Can you eat that in one bite? Not possible. What can you do to eat it? Take one bite at a time.
Similarly, you have to tackle big problems with tiny steps. I told my children to clean their room. They were scared, as it was a big room. But I told them to start with one corner, then move to the next, and so on. Soon, they completed it.
Remember, every little bit helps.
Ask for Help and Ideas
It’s okay when you’re stuck with a problem and can’t see a way out. This is the perfect time to seek support. Reach out to your loved ones for help. You’ll be surprised at how much relief it can bring.
Some may see asking for help as a sign of weakness, but it’s quite the opposite. It’s a sign of strength, showing that you’re self-aware and know your limits. Asking for help is empowering and can make you feel more confident and capable.
Don’t let your ego come in between. It’s okay to say, “I need some help” We are humans and love in a society where we depend on each other. One thing is sure: when you ask for help, no one will say, “I will not help you.”
For example, my daughter once said she couldn’t open her lunch box. She tried and tried, and then she asked his teacher for help. The teacher showed her a trick, and then she could open her lunch box.
Remember, you’re not alone. Many people can help you, such as your friends, family, neighbours, peers, colleagues, and teachers. They’re all around you, ready to lend a hand. You have to reach out to them.
Sometimes, others see answers we can’t see. So, do not hesitate to ask for help. You may be one person away from resolving your problem.
Problems are like puzzles — they might look hard, but there’s always a way to solve them.
